Historic quilts from the McHenry County Historical Society collection will be displayed at the Woodstock Opera House Community Room from January 5 – January 31, 2024. The quilts date from the 1880s to the 1940s and highlight various patterns from the Historical Society’s collection of over 160 quilts. One of the quilts featured is a blue and white commemorative quilt presented to Reverend Lafayette Dillard Beck in 1917 by residents of Woodstock. Reverend Beck was the minister at the First Presbyterian Church in Woodstock from 1912 to 1917. Three white cotton panels on the back of the quilt are embroidered with 539 Woodstock names, including the dedication, “Presented to Rev. & Mrs. L. Dillard Beck by the people of Woodstock, Illinois, Spring 1917.”
The quilt display is free for public viewing during regular Box Office hours at the Woodstock Opera House: Tuesday -Saturday from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. and Sunday from 12 p.m. – 4 p.m.
